Presentation

The Luminy Institute of Mathematics (IML) was created on January 1st, 1996 starting from the old Laboratory of Discrete Mathematics (1992-1995).

The IML is a mixed unit of research of the CNRS (National Centre for Scientific Research) which depends scientifically on the Institute for Mathematical Sciences (INSMI) and administratively of the regional delegation of Provence accomodating a good number of teacher-researchers of Luminy Faculty of Sciences (it is in convention of administrative cosupervision with the University of the Mediterranean Aix-Marseilles II).

The Institute of Mathematics is located on the Luminy Science and Technology Park.

There are eight topics in the IML: Logic of Programming, Arithmetic and Information Theory, Singularities in Geometry and Topology, Representations of Reductive Groups, Dynamics, Arithmetic and Combinatorics, Operator Algebras and Noncommutative Geometry, Mathematical Methods for Genomics and Statistic and Applications

To note The IML is a mixed unit CNRS/University of Aix-Marseilles II. It belongs to the Federation of Research of the Mathematical Units of Marseilles (FRUMAM) which associates 2 others laboratories: the CPT (Center for Theorerical Physics) and the LATP (Laboratory of Analysis, Topology, Probabilities). The CIRM (International Center for Mathematical Meetings) is also associated to the Federation.
